SimCity 113: Great Works

New to SimCity 5, the game will feature structures so grand in scale that they can alter the focus of the entire population of every surrounding town -- including yours. These structures will be quite expensive in terms of both cash and resources; thus they require cooperation amongst players and all developed zones in the region to accomplish.

Great works can only be built on great work sites, which are available via the region management screen (see above image). I'll have more info on that later. I can tell you that whichever great work you choose will cost all cities in the area an extra 300s to maintain.

Arcology

  • Workers
  • Shoppers
  • Students

Cost: 1,000,000s   An arcology is a combination of architecture and ecology wherein the entire system is self-contained. This allows people to live, work, show, and produce goods in an environmentally fashion within the confines of a single building. I assume this will bolster the benefits and demand of all zones, but we'll have to wait for a full game before I'm 100% about that.

International Airport

  • Tourists
  • Freight (Trade Exports)

Cost: 1,000,000s   As you can imagine, an international airport specializes in both passenger and cargo planes. This results in a huge boost to the commercial businesses in your city.

Solar Farm

  • Power

Cost: 500,000s   This dedicates a huge swath of land for energy generation. This will allow you to dispose of almost all of your power production facilities -- saving you loads of money and (more importantly) improving the pollution levels of your cities and -- by proxy -- the health of your Sims.

Space Center

  • Tourism
  • Education

Cost: 1,000,000s   You pull together the high-tech resources in your area to build a spaceship launchpad. The bonus it offers is a huge boost to the education level of your Sims, tourism (in so much as Sims come to watch the launches), and a small boost to tech production.
