SimCity 156: Events and Tourism

Certain ploppable buildings allow you to host major events that attract tourists and residents alike. When these events are successful, they can generate a great deal of cash; when they fail, you lose money big time. The thing is, before the event you have to lay the money out in advance and then hope you sell enough tickets to cover your expenses.

This may seem like a gamble, but if you prepare your mass transit in advance, you can guarantee success and a vibrant dual career as mayor/event planner.

Events and Mass Transit

A quality mass transit system is the key to nursing a fledgling tourism industry into a full-fledged Vegas-style cashcow. Tourists arrive in your city via ferry, train, airport, and bus. As long as you have each of these inlets in place, you can rest assured that any event you throw will be well-attended.

But maximizing your event revenues means thinking strategically when you place your event structures. Buildings like stadiums and arenas should be located as close to the train station and ferry as is reasonable without sacrificing too many RCI properties or throwing out the balance of your well-designed plans. They should also have shuttle bus and streetcar stops directly in front of them to seal the deal.

Tourism

When people who live in other cities come to your city to visit, they are tourists. Tourism is an entire industry built around your city and the interesting buildings you plop down. By interesting, I'm not talking about large police stations or airports. I'm talking about large, dense commercial buildings and cultural buildings that host events or are just nice to look at.

Your city hall has an entire department dedicated to growing your tourism industry and tourism is one of the chief reasons why you want to upgrade your mass transit system as fast as possible. With each new foreign visitor, you gain money, renown, and a chance to grow your city just a little faster. Take time to learn all that you can about maximizing tourism to reap the highest benefits.
