When you roll over the information icon in the health care HUD, you'll get the following tips:
- Sickness is caused by germs
- Germs are created by pollution
- Sick Sims stay home and don't work or shop
- If sick Sims can't get to a hospital, they may become injured
- Injuries can happen at industrial buildings
- Ambulances must pick up injured Sims, otherwise they'll die
- Neighbor cities can provide health coverage for free
- Kids don't get sick
Keeping your people healthy is important for two reasons. Firstly, good health makes people happy and prosperous. In such a state, your citizens will make more money in taxes. The second reason is that when people get sick, the population of your city will diminish. This problem compounds over time, so it's important that you try to eliminate the things that make your people sick and maximize the number of places that will make them better.
Hospitals vs. Clinics
A proper hospital can maintain a fairly high rate of diagnosis for the city as a whole. Compared to clinics -- which can only help their local neighborhood -- hospitals are the preferred building.
Special Needs: Industrial Zones
More than anywhere else in your city, the factories in your industrial zones will generate a large number of injuries. As a result, you'll want to have a single clinic plopped in the middle of your industrial zone dedicated solely to handling the injuries that pop up in that area. This will relieve pressure on the hospitals and ambulances that operate in other parts of the city and provide effective coverage for everyone.
