Elevation and Terrain
Barleycorn has a stream that runs through it connecting to the river that borders it on the east. There is a mesa in the northwest corner, but the rest of the board is pretty flat. The areas near the creek and river drop off sharply -- no beach to work with. The south of the map contains access to the bay.
Water Table
The mesa has almost no water on it, so it's the place to be for your utilities. There's also a bullseye patch of zero water on the large landmass. The peninsula, on the other hand, is pure blue -- a great place for your water towers.
Resources
The mesa is hiding a massive coal deposit and at the foot of the mesa, you'll find three large metal deposits.
Usable Land
As a result of the creek, the city site is divided into two sections -- the main component to the west and a small peninsular area to the east. Sadly, this peninsula is where the highway entrance is, so you're going to have to start off over there and then work your way to the larger area. A bridge across the creek isn't going to be too expensive, but I'm never one to recommend starting out with such an expense.
