When SimCity was first getting ready to launch, a lot of people were upset about the always-online bit and began to complain. By way of explaining the situation, Maxis and EA both claimed that, while yes they were on-line to prevent piracy, they were also online because the game has so many calculations that your computer can't handle them all.
For some reason, almost everyone bought this line except for those of us who program for a living and were like, "What the WHAT?"
Well, for those of you who were curious, a hacker removed the always on-line DRM from his version of the game and then posted a video showing that not only did the game work fine... it worked better, faster, and just the same.
